Breakfast Club Supervisory Assistant

Working Pattern: Part time - term time only, 8hours 45 minutes per week, 7:15am – 9:00am

Salary: £24,027 (Pro Rata)

Starting Date:  15th September 2025


Our Governors are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Breakfast Club supervisory assistant.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with children, be flexible, be able to work well within a team and be willing to undertake training including the safeguarding of children.  Duties include; supervising children during Breakfast Club, both within the school building and outside in the playground, communicating effectively with children, maintaining a clean and Breakfast Club environment and maintaining good behaviour according to the school’s behaviour policy.

This position is paid whole time with retainer adjustments applied to periods of school closure.  You will not be required to work during the school closure periods however your salary in these periods will be adjusted accordingly in line with the retainer regulations as specified in the National Joint Council (NJC) Green Book agreement.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Neville’s Cross Primary School is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our hardworking team.  Neville’s Cross is a popular and welcoming Primary School and Nursery close to Durham City.  The post is to commence as soon as possible. The successful candidate will become part of our inclusive family where all children are nurtured to become happy, confident and resilient learners supported to reach their unique potential.


We are looking for an excellent Teaching Assistant who is able to demonstrate:

  • An ability to work as part of a team
  • A commitment to the school’s ethos
  • Experience of supporting children with a wide range of individual needs
  • Good rapport with both adults and children

Teaching Assistants are employed on term time only contracts, which in Durham equates to 40 weeks. This includes:

  • 38 teaching weeks
  • 1 week for the CPD days
  • 1 week for other activities to be agreed with the Headteacher in line with the needs of the school        

Teaching Assistants are paid for their 40 working weeks, plus annual leave and public holiday entitlement in 12 equal monthly instalments.
Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments

Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments

Where our roles are customer facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
